Giving a traditional Tudor a fresh touch
Tudor homes have a ton of character, including A-frame rooms that can feel claustrophobic. Our challenge with this renovation was to open up the space with modern design treatments while still maintaining Tudor character through traditional materials, shapes, and colors.

What we updated:
- Turned the downstairs basement into a living space with an enclosed laundry room and play areas for children
- Solved for entryway storage by installing a custom-built mud bench, as there was no coat closet
- Added a bench under the pop out window in the kitchen for extra seating
- Created an open concept between the dining room and kitchen, ideal for hosting
- Altered the shape of the fireplace to match classic Tudor architecture
- Opened up the ceiling to expose the joists and create height
- Painted the exterior with an “old-world” texture to bring a more traditional look, but selected modern colors for contrast
